Valentine's Day Not-So-Sweet Treats
Valentine's Day is all about showing the people we care about just how much we love them. Heart shaped chocolates, cookies and candy are usually a part of the celebration. I don't want to be a party pooper and tell you to avoid sweets completely on Valentine's Day but there are some ways to show your significant other a little love without also sending them into a sugar coma.
Here are some great options for healthier homemade Valentine's Day treats.
HOMEMADE DARK CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES
A little box of homemade truffles make a great gift for your spouse, friends, child's school teacher, etc. You can make a large batch, package them in cute little pink and red boxes, and cross off all of your Velentine's Day gifts with one swipe. BREAKFAST IN BED
Nothing is sweeter on Valentine's Day than surprising your love with breakfast in bed. If your Valentine enjoys a sweeter breakfast over eggs and toast, you can try out one of these healthier breakfast options
Oatmeal Pancakes
Pancake Ingredients
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1 banana, mashed
- 3 egg whites
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
Mix ingredients together (I like to use my hand blender so the oats break down a little bit) and cook like a regular pancake. Top with natural nut butter, fresh fruit, and/or pure maple syrup. Feel free to make some heart shaped pancakes for an extra V-Day hit!
Strawberry Smoothie
For a lighter breakfast or a pink addition to your meal, blend some frozen strawberries with a scoop of vanilla protein powder and some chia seeds (for added healthy fats and fiber). Serve in a tall glass with a fresh strawberry on the rim. Yum!
Berry and Yogurt Parfait with Homemade Granola
Create a beautiul and tasty breakfast by combning plain Greek yogurt, fresh bright red berries, and homemade, low-sugar granola. Layer the ingrediets in a clear bowl or glass.

Note: For this recipe, I would skip the food colouring and stick with white berries (unless you can find all-natural colouring)
AVOCADO CHOCOLATE PUDDING
If you're looking for a chocolatey dessert to follow youe Valentine's Day meal, try whipping up a batch of low-sugar chocolate avocado pudding. This dessert is so rich and creamy thar you almost forget it is made from avocados! Serve chilled and top with fresh berries.
